Mark and Emily's first picture together at Phi Tau Spring Pref ♥
Mark and Emily reconnected at Coachella and officially started dating on May 21st, 2018. Mark asked Emily to be his girlfriend in Las Vegas at his fraternity's formal.
Mark graduated from college and they spent the rest of the year attending EDM shows and
music festivals such as EDC, Hard Summer, and Life is Beautiful.
Mark and Emily visited their friend Max while he was studying abroad at Boston University and made a quick trip to New York City.
They celebrated Emily's college graduation by traveling to Bali, Nusa Penida,
and the Gili Islands!
The two braved a roadtrip to Aspen, Colorado to celebrate Emily's birthday. They also moved into their first apartment together and spent lots of time quarantining at the river!
Mark and Emily moved into their first home together and started on lots of renovations after a friends trip to Cancun! They also welcomed their first fur baby, Duke Ellington Sanders, and visited New York City during the holidays.
Fun Fact: Duke got his middle name from a sandwich shop they visited while in New York, which was named after the famous musician!
They spent lots of time with friends and celebrated Emily's birthday in the mountains. Emily surprised Mark with VIP tickets to the Rams game for his birthday and celebrated some more in Kauai!
Mark and Emily kicked off the year by enjoying lots of mountain time with friends and Aprés Ski fun! Emily showed Mark the beauty of the South Bay including Point Vicente in Palos Verdes, where Mark would propose the following year.
They added a temporary furry family member, Zeus, who they rescued and saved from euthanasia. Emily surprised Mark with a birthday bash featuring bowling, laser tag, and Duke’s first trip to Mammoth.
The year wrapped up with amazing concerts, including John Summit and their first Red Rocks show to see Louis the Child while visiting their friend James (aka Duke’s godfather) during his PhD program in Colorado.
Professionally, this was a huge year for Emily, as she celebrated the release of the movie logo her company created and landing her dream job with Shawna Yamamoto Events on the weekends.
Mark and Emily’s year was filled with love and celebration, while navigating through loss. After Emily’s father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, they decided to plan a symbolic "Confetti Wedding" so he could walk her down the aisle and share a first dance. What began as a playful ring pop ceremony, turned into a real proposal from Mark.
The rest of the year included travel, concerts, venue tours, becoming godparents, and celebrating the first wedding in their friend group. They also flew to Las Vegas for the day with Mark’s parents, for a civil ceremony at the Little White Chapel, where they officially became husband and wife.
They attended their first Goldiepalooza, bought their first piece of art by Galilla—half of DJ duo Louis the Child, creators of their song "Better Not"—and reunited with their friend Sam from the UK, one of Emily’s closest college friends from Mark’s fraternity.
Mark and Emily visited Lake Tahoe to see John Summit and do their favorite thing together, which is snowboarding with their friends. The rest of the year was filled with wedding planning including Emily's Bridal Shower.
